Diana Vreeland was the Editor in Chief for American Vouge, before being unceremoniously dumped. She was a genius, though not as smart as present Editor Ms Wintour (more on this in just a minute)
Vreeland would add comical little suggestions to her Vouge, entitled “Why don’t you?” The Satorialist mentioned these a few months back now. It defiantly stamped Vogue with her personality! (Here is a sample if you care to read)
It’s also rumoured that the character Maggie Prescott, the editor of a hugely successful women’s fashion magazine, Quality, in the 1957, Audrey Hepburn movie, Funny Face, was based on Vreeland (Miranda Priestly to Anna Wintour, anybody?).
Ms Wintour is only smarter than Ms Vreelansd in the way that Ms Wintour has marketed herself just as much as she has Vouge. Wintour has just as much pulling power as (perhaps even more than) the magazine she is at the helm of. The Devil Wears Prada, movie and book, did nothing to taint her image, but rather created this character to worship and perhaps even attempt to emulate just a tiny bit. With the realses of The September Issue last year, this only solidified Ms Wintour’s claim on the fashion bible. Can you imagine Vogue without Anna Wintour in charge now?
BUT! This is all off the topic! The topic was meant to be Balenciaga, and the latest perfume to be released by the fashion house. It’s been out for quite some time now and I have been in love with the print advertisement too (Charlotte Gainsbourg, who also happens to be the muse)! And the bottle is beautiful!
Behold!
And now, just the bottle!
