Today marks the first official day of winter, for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, and I have to say I’m welcoming to cold change with open arms. I love winter! I love the clothes, everything becomes so much more about the smaller details, there is more tailoring. You take care dressing. I love the nights with friends eating pasta and drinking red wine. I love the crispness and the smell of the air, the faint whiff of someone’s log fire. I love burying myself under the covers and escaping into a book for the entire weekend!
(The Row- Schoolboy Jacket, available exclusively from Bergdorf Goodman)
My winter would be complete if I had this jacket in my wardrobe. I’m thinking I might be able to get one for a steal on eBay now as today also marks the first official day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show. ~Andrew Wyeth
There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. ~Ruth Stout
Winter is the time of promise because there is so little to do - or because you can now and then permit yourself the luxury of thinking so. ~Stanley Crawford
Today also marks New Toothbrush Day (the changing of your toothbrush, something that you should do every three months and something I remember to do with the change of seasons). A day of great importance as far as oral hygiene is concerned but far less exciting and dreamy than the season that has inspired all of the above mentioned quotes.
